501(c)(3)-approval
Over a year has passed since we sent in our 501(c)(3) paperwork to the government. We finally received an exciting letter from the IRS (which is rare) regarding our application for exemption from federal income taxes, and it was approved! The almighty IRS has determined that because our organizations work, we are exempt from federal income taxes and are officially a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization! This of course means that all current and future donations, bequests and gifts are deductible by the donor. We are also happy to announce that all past donations are also exempt as of our official exemption date, April 19, 2013.
Our Commitment to the Users
This approval is a huge honor to us and a symbol of our seriousness and dedication to all the users of Wildlife Rehabilitation MD. When we created Wildlife Rehabilitation MD one of our top priorities was to ensure our longevity and commitment to the users. By establishing ourselves as a fully qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization we now carry the legitimacy of wildlife professionals rather than a rag-tag group of hippie rehabers, (though our roots are always in our hearts). This database is much more than just a hobby to us. It is a serious undertaking to create the simplest and most flexible wildlife rehabilitation database available, while also supporting the standardization of terminology throughout the community. Our efforts to further develop this database combined with our new 501(c)(3) status are evidence of our long-term commitment to you, the users.
