The Story of the WRMD Logo

Rachel’s original sketches of the WRMD logo. These sketches were drawn on a cocktail napkin.

Our President and Co-Founder, Rachel Avilla, created the WRMD logo. Because WRMD is a database and data analytics can be considered a bookish type endeavor, she decided to use a bookworm style mascot. This bookworm is reminiscent of the 80’s style Glo worm toy.

Growing up, Rachel would often doodle the character Garfield the cat so the worm logo is a combination of Garfield the cat and a Glo worm. Rachel first sketched this logo on a cocktail napkin while out to dinner one night. Those sketches became the current WRMD logo that we know and love, below.
